A Personal Branding Session with Kendall
Eat. Sleep. Create. Repeat. (I want a t-shirt like this!)
When Kendall asked if I could do a personal branding session with her, I was excited to do so. I had seen her studio once before in the summer before it was all set up. As I walked in I could sense the feeling of calmness, her sanctuary. Full of creative energy and joy, just like her! And my goal in photographing her session was to capture all this energy! Just looking at her vision board had my head swimming with ideas too.
We had a plan for what kind of images we wanted for her social media presence. It had been over two years since our last PB session, and things had changed. She now owned a house with her own private space to create!
With a shot list that contained the ideas we wanted to capture, we got to work. There were several scenes we wanted to capture to tell her story. After an hour shooting the required shots, we felt we had accomplished what we planned.
When photographing a client for branding images, it's important for me to get the detail shots as well as capture the feeling of who the person is.
First impressions count, and knowing Kendall all her life, I can tell you she is genuine, loving, full of joy and excitement for life. She has a natural talent, and sharing her work with the world is something she loves to do. She is often working on a commissioned piece between working on her own projects, working at InJoy and is a Reiki practitioner and instructor.
Her personality shines through in these images created to help her market her work and lets us know a bit about her. Capturing images of Kendall at work portrays to her audience what she is all about. They get to know and trust her and it helps create a connection to her audience. These story-telling images help her followers engage with her. These are more than headshot images.
Part of Kendall's story is Maya, her furry little grammar checker, among other things. Maya is always game to help Kendall as she writes her ideas down in her special journal.
Kendall has a welcoming gallery where I was able to sit on the couch and take in all the beautiful paintings she had displayed. We wanted to have some images to show her gallery wall as well as her working in the studio. (We had a long shot list!)
With several works on the go, Kendall is a busy artist. It was easy to see why she wants to spend so much time in her studio. One thing she mentioned was how hard it was to set up and take her own selfies. That's where I come in! In just an hour we had so many images for me to cull through and send the best ones for her to choose from.
Kendall does commissioned work, and here is a beautiful painting of the West Coast Trail. Having hiked the WCT myself, I could feel the sensation of sand under my hiking boots, the smell of the evergreens and ocean, and the warmth of the summer sun beating down on my shoulders. This acrylic on canvas painting has found its new home on Vancouver Island but she has prints available.
You can find her work on her website, The Spirit of Trees Fine Art. If you love her art, sign up for her newsletter to follow her journey and see her work.
