Sarah, the Beautiful
This is Sarah. Strong, beautiful, full of love and life and laughter. I sent her files to her and she posted them to Facebook. Her words were so powerful, I asked if I could share them here. And this is what she has to say.
"100lbs gone.I'm sharing this huge accomplishment with y'all even tho I can assure you being congratulated for weight loss just feels like your greatest fear is confirmed..."You have to be thin to be valuable to the world."Women of all sizes have to find peace with who they are out of survival. Women have to be brave enough to be the stars in their own lives when others want us to be the sidekick.
So many women genuinely believe that the worst thing they can be is fat. But to be a confident, powerful, accomplished woman who isn't afraid to claim all of that beautiful physical and spiritual space is an act of a revolution.
Take up Space!

When I saw a post from Sarah back in March announcing her 2020 goal to lose weight, I reached out to see if she wanted a photo session to record her journey of weight loss. I'm so glad she said "Yes!" I photographed her in the studio wearing the green tank top. In August, after losing 100 lbs, we had an outdoor session at Cottonwood Island Park. She was as beautiful as ever, but the smile seemed even brighter. And as we walk together in the park, brushing away the pesky mosquitoes, we chat about work in the care home, on the farm, and how much work and will power it takes to accomplish this goal.
It's hard work and it is paying off for her. I have so much admiration for this beautiful young woman.
Doesn't she look fabulous? I love her tattoos! These images are lightly enhanced for colour correction and contrast, but no Photoshop tricks like face or body sculpting were done. I wanted to record her progress accurately. And besides, she didn't need those tricks to see her beauty shine through in every image.
I first met Sarah when I was working on my Sisters Project in 2018. This is still one of my most favourite images of all time.
