Creative Incentive
There is nothing more inspiring than being in the same room as fellow creatives! This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending a Keynote Presentation by Faye and Trevor Yerbury from Scotland. A charming couple with so much energy as they demonstrated how they photograph Fine Art nudes. Their presentation contained exquisite black and whites and many of their images were displayed in the Exhibition Gallery along with the work of the members of Professional Photographers of Canada-British Columbia in the first ever PHOTOGraphie Festival held in Vancouver, BC.
Being inspired over the years by so many fabulous photographers in so many genres, I am finding what I love to create. By being open to see the work of others, I am greatly inspired to create my own vision of the world as I see it. Although I also create B&W semi-nudes I am not posting them here.
I love to create with the camera whether it is a landscape or human subject, then with the tools available in Photoshop, I work the images some more to finally reach my vision. To see how "The Guardian" came to be, you can find my post here.
The Keynote, a photography Trade Show sponsored by Beau Photo, mini-talks and Exhibition Gallery, min-workshops with working photographers, Creative Crawl and Fun Night, as well a Gala Awards Night, was all part of the annual convention of PPOC-BC. Members could also enter up to four of their best images to be judged in the Image Salon (Competition) to see who would take the prestigious Photographer of the Year award. The photographer had to have all four images accepted into the Salon to become eligible to be a Finalist for POY. My entry this year was my personal best with all four images making it into the salon. Two received a score of Merit which is one above Accepted. I'm striving for Excellence so there's still room to grow.
These images are this year's entry and allowed me to be on the list of Finalists for Photographer of the Year! It was an honour to reach this, and although I didn't win, I received the Best in Class trophy for Press with "One More Down", an image captured while shooting at a Prince George Minor Football game where I try to capture peak action shots for the players. The entries were judged in a live judging open to the public by nationally qualified judges (5 on the panel). "The Guardian" received TWO Judges Choice Awards! I was thrilled with that as this image is one of my very favourites, and is also one of my Limited Edition prints.
