5 Signs Your Need to Update Your Headshot
5 Signs You Need to Update Your Headshot
So you already have headshots, is there really a need to update them? Ideally, your headshots could do with an update every 2 years, especially in certain industries such as film and theatre. Or if you've changed jobs and want to start fresh. Or you are just building your start-up business!
Here are a few signs that should invest in a new headshot:
- You’ve updated your look. Have you lost a significant amount of weight, changed your hair, or had surgery? This is sign that it’s time to schedule another headshot session with your photographer. When people meet with you, if they don’t recognize you, it can come off as untrustworthy.
- You’ve aged. If you’ve noticed some changes in the mirror, it’s probably a good idea to update your headshots. The reality is that your headshots need to look recent, so aging is the first good reason to consider updating your headshots. This is particularly important if your appearance plays a role in you getting work.
- Your current headshots are trendy. Unfortunately, trends never last long, which means your headshot quickly becomes outdated. If the last time you got a headshot you followed a particular trend, whether this was a style of photo or fashion, it’s time to update your images. Better to opt for a timeless look and photo style for the best results.
- People often don’t recognize you. If potential employers, clients, or business partners often tell you how different you look in person, you might want to update your headshot.
- The background used is distracting. If your eye is drawn to the background of your photo instead of your face, it’s not the right image. Ugly, outdated, or distracting backdrops should be avoided for any and all headshots.
So, is it time to give your headshots an upgrade?

Headshot sessions are quick and fun! Just ask any of the fabulous women and men I've photographed! It was fun to meet them and have the opportunity to photograph them so they could have great images for their Facebook, Linked In, Twitter, Google, YouTube and personal web pages!
"You did really good work, kept things simple and both the session and the results were done in really good timeframes I know the last time we used a photographer was a few years ago now but the pictures took almost six weeks to get back. So I really appreciated that." - Luis Enes, BMO Financial Planner
"Our Company A-Teck Appraisals hired Terrill to take our corporate photographs for our website. She did individual pictures and group pictures. We were very pleased with the finished results. "What I was probably most nervous about was not really being sure how to pose for the pictures. But you were very good about directing me physically and knowing what angles worked and what didn't and how I could position myself the most flatteringly. And I liked the variety of poses in the pictures I had to choose from, they all ended up looking quite natural." ~ Jasmine E.
