5 Questions I Ask Before a Headshot Session
Since everyone is unique, I believe they should be photographed that way! I like to get to know my clients and gain their trust before we have a session so I us these 5 simple questions to help me learn more about my clients before picking up my camera.
1. What do you do for a living?
I might already know this from the form you filled out to book your session, and that's very helpful! It makes me think ahead of time about the kind of looks you might be after. But at our session I will ask more about your profession as a way to get to know you better before I bring my camera into the picture.
2. Have you ever had your headshot created professionally before?
This could be yout first time being photographed by a professional photographer. With having no idea what to expect, you are possibly very nervous about the session and what may be expected of you. If you haven't been photographed professionally before then I will take a few minutes to explain that I work closely with all my clients, which results in fabulous images that they actually will love!
3. What do you like about your current headshot?
This helps me decide how to photograph you. Perhaps you prefer a certain side of your face. (Almost everyone has a feature they don't like, one eye smaller than the other for example, This is why I always present my right cheek to the camera! To make my left eye look the same size!) I keep this information in mind while photographing. My one goal through the whole process is for my clients to love their images!
4. What don’t you like about your current headshot?
Sometimes it's easier to note what a client doesn't like, but the list can be longer than what you do like! But this helps me listen to your needs, and create something that reflects what you need now to make it a more positive experience for you.
5. Where will the image be used?
This is very important because if the image is being used on a website, what layout is required, horizontal or vertical? Is there a standard background colour used for the corporation you may work for or to match the website? If I have this information ahead of time, it makes capturing just the right image that much easier for both of us!
