The Creating of Supernal Powers
Being a member of Professional Photographers of Canada for over ten years has come with a lot of surprises. The latest was when a newer member, Manpreet Sokhi, and I were video chatting about his new project, Award Winning Photography Explained, a YouTube channel where he interviews Award-winning professional photographers on how they created a Merit or Excellence, or Best in Class image. I was giving him all my favourite PPOC members whose images I just loved, and he asked if he could interview me as well! I was blown away!
Living in the northern half of British Columbia I am fortunate to see the aurora more often than my lower mainland friends. So when we decided to interview me about "Supernal Powers", a Merit image in the 2019 BC Image Salon, I had to find the files and recreate how I did it. Lots of fun!
Award Winning Photography Explained
Capturing the Aurora Borealis - plus Light Painting with a Model
The video is a look at capturing the aurora borealis plus light painting with a model. I explain how to photograph the northern lights and make it more interesting using light painting with a model. I walk through my photography tips, photography gear and how to prepare for shooting photos at night. And in the video, I give tips on how to find and shoot the Aurora, and links to the apps I use to figure out when it is a good time to go chase the Aurora.
Give it a play, like and subscribe to his channel (what does it hurt?) and add a comment if you like!
